Meet the Ladies Keeping GTM Moving

At GTM, our Streetworks team play a vital role in keeping projects moving across England, Scotland and Wales. From major infrastructure schemes to one-day works such as litter picking and tree cutting, Nikki, Jess and Hailey manage a wide range of permits and applications to ensure our operatives can carry out their work safely.

Working on behalf of clients including WHP Telecoms, Jet Network Solutions, CK Rail, MJ Quinn, Cadent Gas, Thames Water and Braintree District Council, the team coordinates applications with local authorities, clients and stakeholders to ensure works proceed smoothly. Most recently, they have supported the start of works on the Midland Rail Hub Scheme in Birmingham, which is one of the UK’s most significant rail infrastructure programmes.

However, their responsibilities extend far beyond standard permit applications. The team submits permits through Street Manager, Aurora and directly to local authorities, managing starts, stops and registrations throughout the lifecycle of a project. They also support training and development activities, which enables operatives to undertake training on the live highway and gain essential industry qualifications.

The team’s work covers a broad range of applications, including Section 50 and Section 278 works, vehicle crossings, S171 licences, telecommunications and railway bridge works, TTROs, switch outs, parking bay and bus stop suspensions, National Highways works and Connect25 works. In fact, one of the team’s most significant achievements was managing all permit requests and applications for the Milton Keynes East Housing Development Scheme, a major two-year project that was successfully completed in early 2026.

But, their dedication doesn’t stop when the working day ends. Team Leader Nikki is heavily involved in supporting the local community, volunteering as secretary for a local football club and managing Hedingham Wolves, a youth football team who are proudly sponsored by GTM.

Behind every permit approved and every project delivered is a team of professionals making it possible. Our Streetworks team works tirelessly behind the scenes to support projects, clients and communities and ensure critical works can be delivered compliantly and efficiently every day.

These GTM Operativess never cease to amaze me every year they turn out in support to close a major artery in Chesterfield including high speed lane closures with almost military precision on timings…nothing is ever an issue they always have smiles on there faces and join in with the atmosphere for almost 3500 walkers this year. Without them we couldn’t host such an event of this magnitude.

Since starting at GTM last year, I have really enjoyed the mix of people I work with as in my job role as HSEQ Advisor I get to travel to the depots I oversee. The team I am part of is really good in pushing each other and you do get a feel of a little family. Immaculate traffic management

Your approach to working so easily with us has been a real credit…it is so nice to be able to rely on somebody, even the events that were completely out of your control. It has been priceless having a presence on site throughout this project. The traffic management has always been immaculate and in really good order.

GTM has supported my career path

I started working for GTM in July 2021 as a traffic Management operative…I then got extra training and achieved my M3-M5 Lantra qualification, GTM has supported my career path and I gained my HGV class 2 licence. I was offered a supervisors role I took the opportunity and each day a boosted my confidence.

I have now being enrolled on a 2 year scheme to start my SHEQ role in Health & Safety. GTM is a place you can climb the ladder to better your career path.
